How to Use Stripe’s Customer Portal with Substack
A feature to help with Substack newsletter management
Stripe has just launched their new customer portal for Stripe Express accounts.
I was pretty excited to hear about it. Some of my Substack subscribers have needed help to get their payment paperwork organised, which meant I was doing more customer support than optimal. This new feature from Stripe should make life easier for my subscribers, and, by extension, for me. Or so I thought.
Unfortunately, after investigating the customer portal, I’m not sure that it is worth using it with a Substack publication. Read on to find out why.
What is Stripe’s customer portal?
Stripe’s customer portal is a pre-built system that Substack newsletter owners can activate from their Stripe dashboards. It allows Substack subscribers to get direct access to the payment system connected to a Substack newsletter.
This provides a second way for subscribers to manage their subscriptions. The other way is by logging in to their Substack profiles.
With the Stripe portal, your Substack subscribers can see and manage their subscription, payment methods and invoices without having to log in to Substack first.
