What is an Audiogram?

An audiogram is a video version of an audio file like a podcast episode or lecture. The visual part of an audiogram is usually a static image with an overlay of an audio waveform. The moving waveform acts as a cue, telling the viewer to expect audio-only content in the video, as well as adding some movement to keep viewers’ interest.

Any audio content can be turned into an audiogram, including podcasts, narrated newsletters, poems and music.

Why Make an Audiogram?

You’ve heard that YouTube is the world’s second-biggest search engine, right? YouTube is also the worlds’ second most-visited website, with 14.3 billion visits per month: more than Facebook, Wikipedia, Amazon and Instagram.

The bad news is that audio-only files, like Substack podcast episodes, can’t be published on YouTube. This leaves podcasters with no access to the world’s second-largest audience.
