Hi Hemanth,

What a shame the Analytics aren’t working for you. I was a bit suspicious of whether the new analytics tag/ID would actually work in Substack.

After I wrote the article, and since I already have a Google Tag Manager account for another project, I went back to add my Tag Manager ID to Substack as well.

It should have been simple, BUT Google Tag Manager doesn’t accept the new analytics IDs. So I had to find a way to create an old-style (UA-xxxxx) analytics ID, then attach that to Tag Manager, then add it to Substack. Google!!!!

I almost threw my computer out the window!

If Substack analytics are not working for you with the Google Analytics 4 ID, then you could definitely try Google Tag Manager too. If you have the patience….

There are plenty of tutorials on how to set up a Tag Manager account.

The important thing to know is that you have to create an old-style analytics ID first (starts with UA-xxxxx). This article tells you how to do it: https://www.analyticsmania.com/post/downgrade-from-google-analytics-4-to-universal-analytics/

After you have got the UA-xxxxx ID from Analytics, then go to Tag Manager and set up your Substack Container ID on Tag Manager, following one of the many other tag manager tutorials you can find easily online (I like this one: https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/google-tag-manager-guide)

Good luck!
