People are still talking about climate change in future tense. I can’t believe it.

Are you accounting for climate change when you plan your retirement? This was a question asked by one writer on Medium recently*.

In the article we were warned that climate change will happen “one day” and we should be prepared for it. I’m here to tell you that day was yesterday. Or, more probably last century.

Climate change isn’t a thing that “will happen”. It is happening, now. Climate change has started and it’s proceeding at a pace that most of us can’t even begin to comprehend.

I’m not sure if it’s charmingly naive or instead alarmingly ignorant that people are still talking about climate change as if it is something that will happen to us one day.

Major, bad climate changes have already happened and us dumb humans are like frogs in a pot on a stove, not realising our fate, happily unaware that we are slowly being boiled alive.

In the last 3 years I have (a) seen my entire city blanketed with a layer of bushfire ash (b) watched my friends’ farms literally blow away in the wind away after years of drought destroyed every shred of vegetation c) experienced a mini-tornado in a non-tornado area (d) paid vastly greater premiums on my home…
