7 must-haves if you want to make money with Substack

I’ve been writing on Substack for 3.5 years and have passed $50K earnings in subscription fees for a publication that’s not writing about writing.

Substack is optimized for paid subscriptions, but that’s not the only way to earn with it. In addition to subscription fees, smart creators can make money on Substack by selling other products and services to the audiences they’ve built.

For example, I have a lucrative consulting client who was introduced to me by a reader of my not-about-writing publication. Without that publication, I would not have that client.

And I make a great side income helping other Substack creators with their publications and strategies.

I’m living proof it’s possible to make money with Substack. So take heart, it can be done, even by people who aren’t writing about writing (my high-earning publication is about food safety).
